Native from Reunion Island, Benoit Mussard explores the multiple facets of the guitar through very different styles. Classical music mixes with the colors of Brazil and the rhythms of Reunion Island.
His first album “Tropikal” subtly reflects these various influences. The sounds of the wind, the rain, the storm and the birds begin to vibrate under the strings of the ukulele, the guitar, and the kora.
Although the characteristic playing of the classical guitar is still at the heart of creation, Benoit experiments with new techniques. Percussions, whistles and flutes evolve over swaying rhythms. The goal is to make the most of the possibilities offered by the instrument, and to introduce the public to the classical guitar in a completely different way.
Benoit started playing classical guitar at the age of 7. It was with Jérémy Jouve, Lorenzo Micheli and Tristan Manoukian that the young guitarist developed his love for the instrument. From the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse of Paris to the Martha Art House Academy in Palermo, he subsequently joined the Haute École de Musique of Geneva. Within this famous institution, he perfected the art of composition with the greatest masters: Michael Jarrell and Luis Naon.
From the orchestra to the harp, the piano, the accordion and even traditional instruments of all kinds, his pieces are performed by exceptional musicians: Tjasha Gafner, Julien Beautemps, Sotiris Athanasiou, Contrechamps orchestra...
Winner of several international competitions, Benoit Mussard today travels across Europe and the world, guitar on his back, meeting traditional musicians and cultures, in search of musical adventure and inspiration.
